BBQ

Bbq

We had a late father’s day celebration here with my sister, Simon, and my father, and we tested out our new barbeque for the first time. My sister made kebabs and I made the rest. It was a lot of fun.

Menu:
Halloumi and vegetable kebabs
Prawn kebabs
Flatbread
Youghurt and Dill
Salad and herbs from the garden

Vanilla ice cream
Chocolate sauce
Tuiles aux Amandes Effilees

Notes for next time:
-I used the flat bread recipe from the Moro cookbook. It was good but they say to use the oven to cook the flat bread, I prefer to use a dry pan. Like when cooking naan bread at home I find it best to cook them one by one on a hot dry pan rather than under the grill.
-The vanilla ice cream was wonderful, it was my first time making it. I think next time I will make it a day in advance. So actually I would have to start the process two days in advance as the milk/cream/creme fraiche which is the base for the creme anglaise (which is the base for the ice cream) overnights with the vanilla pods to give it that extra vanilla time.
-I might have a go at making the Tuiles aux Amandes Effilees gluten free. The recipe that I followed (from The Cooks Book) has a bit of flour but I may give it a go with something else.

Such a lovely Sunday :)

What gorgeous BBQ food and what a lovely treat for your dad. I love halloumi and veg kebabs – had them at our friends’ party on Saturday night. Have never tried to make ice cream so I might just give it a go and try your tip.
