This week the Illustration Friday word is 'Baby' and this is my submission.
This is how I got there:
I considered objects from my childhood. This is a drawing of the little children's chopsticks that I used when I was a very young child. They have a green Keroppi case. I still have them.
Various drawings of other children's objects.
But I was more interested in the feeling of being around a baby.
What the parents feel and what the baby feels.
People hold their arms around the baby to support it and protect it. I thought about the two parents holding their arms around the baby and each other.
I like this as much as the final one; I am totally not sure which I like more! I used a continuous line to show the parents are joined in caring for the baby.
Then I did the drawing at the top of the page and a few versions of it. It took a few goes to get a face I was happy with.
Hee! This is where I took it too far.
I haven't submitted anything to Illustration Friday before even though I look at it pretty often. It is so interesting to see all the different takes on the same word each week. A very good website :)

Love the idea of a cocoon surrounding – clean, strong image. Very lovely
Very nice image! I love the simplicity. And thanks for showing the process- it’s fun to see.
This is amazing and it was fascinating to see and read how you got to your image; I think I agree with you about the next to the final image being the best. Love your clean lines. A real treat!
OMG I THINK YOUR SUBMISSION IS MY FAVORITE! :)
