View from the hotel room. This was another one night stop off, we stayed in the Shiroyama Kanko Hotel which overlooks the city and its ACTIVE volcano. The hotel had a nice onsen (hot spring) with views of the volcano. Well, my sister got asked to leave the onsen because she has a tattoo (which is not allowed in lots of onsen). The banning of ladies with ‘fashion tattoos’ is not something I really understand in this day and age but hey :)

As we were in Kagoshima so briefly we weren’t able to try the sand onsen that I had heard so much about. We did manage to squeeze in a quick visit to the Iso-teien Garden which was hosting a chrysanthemum festival.

i didn’t know there was a word for kiku (chrysanthemum). i just assumed kiku was kiku. ha, how presumptuous of me.
i’m bothered to hear that your sister got asked to leave the onsen because of a friggin’ tattoo. what harm or disrespect does it do to anyone at all? it’s not like she had a massive peony pattern on her back or anything like that, right? was the hotel staff also in the onsen or did a stranger tell about her!?
We think that maybe one of the old ladies told on us. Her tattoo isn’t a huge full body one or anything. Oh well! All part of the adventure.. :)
Your pictures are amazing! They convey the feeling of the places you visit so well.
Thank you Dottie :)
