Bristol & Bath

My sister gave me a voucher for a mystery trip at the end of last year as a gift for my birthday which I was pretty excited about cashing in this weekend as she does great mystery trips and it is always fun to go on adventures with my sister.

Overnight I stayed at my sister’s new place in Bristol that she shares with a friend, it’s another great place (you can see some of her previous flats here and here). We didn’t actually have the damson jam as we couldn’t open the jar (haha, feeble!) so we had honey instead. Then we headed out on the train to Bath which is only a short ride away.

These are the Roman Baths, it was especially interesting to see these having just been to Rome. My favourite fact was that the street level next to the baths is now 4 meters higher than it was in Roman times.

We had morning tea in the Pump Room, very civilised.

Bath seems a very good place for cute little shops and cafes. While Bristol seems to have more of an alternative edge, Bath has so many pretty streets. We ate at the River Cottage Canteen, really good kippers and chocolate brownies.

Great idea for a present! I’ve been wanting to go to Bath and Cheltenham for a while now… I love spa towns.

I think I enjoyed Bath more than Cheltenham as it seemed a bit more piggledy than posh but I haven’t been to Cheltenham in ages so maybe I should give it a go again :)

Can people still bathe in the water at the Roman baths? I’m guessing no, since who would want to do so with all those tourists looking on? I was just looking at Bath on Google Earth last week after reading a book that mentioned the Royal Cresent, and wondering how it fit into the greater street system and city fabric. I was curious whether there were awkward parcels at the back and such. It’s a cool view– I saw a bunch of allotment gardens nearby, which fascinate me.

They couldn’t bathe in that part but I think there is a fancy spa in the city that people go to, it wouldn’t be quite the same though. That is cool that you were just looking at it! I love looking up destinations on google :)

Oh thank you for a wonderful post. I lived in Bath in my early twenties for a few years and then went to Uni in Bristol also and it’s been such a long time since I’ve been back so this was lovely x

I just realize how nice it it to get to see little bits and pieces of the UK like this. Makes me want to travel around and have tea at a very “civilized” place or just walk around such pretty streets.

I am glad to be able to show it! I like to see your bits and pieces of Japan :)

I love that kind of shelves, with all pretty things.
It always tells a story about the house and the people who live in.
    Beautiful.
