Berlin

I went to Berlin for the Easter weekend for a family celebration. We had a great time! These are some of the pictures I took…

We arrived quite late but went out to a neighbourhood place and I had my favourite only-in-Berlin drink, Berliner Weiss mit rot, which is beer with a shot of raspberry :)

At the hotel. As there were so many family members converging on Berlin we stayed in a hotel.

I love these big old German flats with a ‘front house’ and a ‘back house’, between the two is usually a corridor like this where everyone stores their bikes.

What to do when you have a few hours to spare at Schoenefeld airport? A drink and a pretzel ;)

Hopefully I will be back in Berlin in the summer. Such a great place.

Your blog of seemingly continuous travel makes the wait for my trip even more exciting! I can’t wait to be able to spend weekends in Berlin! Gorgeous photos – love the brogues! and will definitely have to give the Berliner Weiss mit rot a go.

Ha yes, I do travel quite a bit, partly because I have family quite widespread around the place but also I love to visit different places :) I hope that you enjoy a Berliner Weiss!

Alice, these photos are just beautiful! Every day I grow more and more desperate for a DSLR. I also want Berliner Weiss mit rot, and a pretzel. It all looks so wonderful – I love the bike corridor, your sister’s brogues, the German breakfasts, the graffiti… thank you for sharing, glad you had a great trip!

I love using my DSLR so much, I was anxious all that time ago about spending the money but I haven’t looked back since. If you think that you wouldn’t mind carrying such a big and heavy camera and would get the use from it then it is so worth it :)

I think I’ve just died and gone to heaven on sight of these photos. I am in LOVE with your mother’s chandelier! Is it murano glass?

I love the easter decorations. It’s what I love most about berlin: simple but pretty decorations and art all over the place.

And yes, how handy are those huge hallways they have! You can just wheel your bike right in!

Seriously craving a Berlin trip now. And beer. And a huge German breakfast. :)

      Yay for Berlin!

I am not sure what glass it is but I know that they bought it in a shop in London and brought it over. I love it too :)

Lovely, lovely photos. Berlin is such an amazing city. I love the easter eggs hanging off the trees.

Oh, should really go back to Berlin sometime soon.

Wonderful pictures – they capture the feeling of your stay in Berlin perfectly. Two amazing chandeliers as well – the second of looks truely enormous! (or maybe it is that the figures in the photo are standing far away ;)

    • Posted April 11, 2010 at 8:56 pm | Permalink

The second one was massive, I think it was part of an art piece with the carpet? :)

Looks/sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! I’m not familiar with Berlin at all, but these photos of yours make me want to go visit there one day! Your so lucky to be able to travel to other countries just “for the weekend”, Japan is too far from all the places I want to visit!!

    • Posted April 11, 2010 at 8:59 pm | Permalink

I really appreciate how lucky we are here to be only a short journey from such nice places! However I am sad that Japan is so far away and I can’t visit very often. I am looking forward to hearing about Okinawa :)

This post made me jealous in so many ways. I’ve never been to Berlin or never seen their Easter decorations or their fat cats. Lucky you, Alice!
