Some places (like in the top and bottom pictures) kind of force you to try out their special cocktails by not doing the classics, my real favourites are the Manhattan (when out), a Mint Julep (at home), or (only when it is very hot) a Margarita. I have made these before and they were nice. Any cocktail recommendations? :)

Ooh, I love margaritas. I also like really vile sweet stuff like brandy alexanders, or white russians. I also love a classic martini. Hmmm.

I don’t think I have ever had a brandy alexander, it sounds good though!

Those look great! I also love manhattans, classic or gin martinis, the occasional espresso martini, and weird and wonderful things such as are served at my current favourite bar… my favourite (i thiiink, although i do change my mind!) involves tequila, amer picon bitter orange, walnut liqueur and cardamom bitters (i just had to look it up on the menu!) , and there’s also a great one with whisky, bitters, cherry juice and orange. Check out the menu of Callooh Callay in Shoreditch for unusual cocktail inspiration (it’s Alice in Wonderland themed!). That drink with rosemary sounds delicious.

Wow they do sound interesting! I had a look at the menu that you suggested and they have very nice sounding drinks.

I love an iced raspberry mojito or a belini {any fruit with Prosecco for a spot of fizz} and m’boy a Maple Old Fashioned.

I had to look up what a Maple Old Fashioned was, it sounds good. I like the ones with fizz too although I find I can drink them too quickly when there isn’t a lot of ice to slow me down :)

i never think to make mint juleps!

the other day i muddled tarragon in some lime soda, added tequilla and a lime wedge. it was lovely!

Mmm that sounds good! The tarragon isn’t something I have heard of using before but I see how it must be good with the other elements :)

Why hadn’t I thought of making mint juleps at home?! We make daiquiris, mai tais, manhattans, margaritas, Tom Collins, white Russians, southsides, etc. at home. We have a couple of great bars here in Austin (FINO and East Side Show Room) that have wonderfully crafted cocktails, so we usually just let those bartenders whip up something fresh and fabulous. :)

There aren’t that many cocktail places here, it is more of an ale/beer pub culture which is why I think we end up making them ourselves at home. Everything I hear about Austin makes me want to visit :)

Cosmo, though I’m in a constant search for the perfect recipe. Also I love frozen margaritas. Hey Alice, I didn’t know you drink. ;-)

Really I am a wine person :D It is a very drinking culture over here and I am no exception. I try not to have too much obviously but when I meet my friends in the evening it is usually in a pub with drinks :)
