View from our room.
In the boneyard.
Ceiling of the Bellagio lobby.
Some casino or other, I don’t remember which as a lot of them looked like this!
A bit of high life. Cocktails at the Wynn. The near one had bacon in it.
I want to go back! Neither of us are interested in gambling (we gambled $1 just to have done it) but we both really enjoyed Las Vegas. It was a great way to start the trip as it is such a culture shock and a good place to deal with jet lag. I think it’s pretty much the exact opposite of Oxford where we live as it’s all so new and shiny. We flew direct from London, and it’s a pretty epic 11 hour flight, but to step out into the dry heat and sunshine was fantastic. We stayed in the Bellagio, I’d definitely stay there again it was really nicely done and it’s in a great location on the strip. The Wynn also looked good. Our room at the Bellagio was heavily discounted as it was mid-week and I also called them in advance to ask if they had any offers. I’m still thinking about that massive marble bathroom.
Our main entertainment was walking up and down the strip looking into all the casinos and hotels. So much craziness and all so well maintained. A funny thing we noticed was that background music is playing everywhere, in every casino, restaurant, every corridor, out on the street, at the bus stop, on the bus, in the toilets etc. Maybe you stop noticing it after a while? We took the Deuce bus downtown to Fremont Street. Food-wise Las Vegas seems to have so many famous chef outposts, we weren’t around long enough to try out many places but we did try one of the legendary Las Vegas buffets at The Bellagio, we were really pathetic in what we ate compared to other folks who seemed to be consuming huge amounts of crab legs and steak. I loved the self serve peach sorbet. Another almost obligatory Las Vegas thing was going to see a Cirque Du Soleil show, so we went to see O which was really well done.
I didn’t actually take that many pictures in Las Vegas, I don’t feel I got into my photographic stride until much later in the trip, I was too jet lagged and busy looking at everything. Another reason to go back soon :)
