I went to Berlin for the Easter weekend for a family celebration. We had a great time! These are some of the pictures I took…

We arrived quite late but went out to a neighbourhood place and I had my favourite only-in-Berlin drink, Berliner Weiss mit rot, which is beer with a shot of raspberry :)

At the hotel. As there were so many family members converging on Berlin we stayed in a hotel.
Barrel organ at the family event.

My sister’s brogues.

At my mother’s flat.
German breakfast at the hotel, so yummy and different from my usual.

Many Easter decorations in this part of the world.

Mary, one of the hotel cats.

On the Sunday we went on a boat trip, my sister and I had more Berliner Weiss mit rot.

This art I showed before but from a different angle. More on this piece here.

The neighbourhood.

I love these big old German flats with a ‘front house’ and a ‘back house’, between the two is usually a corridor like this where everyone stores their bikes.
Including :)
Apartment.

More German breakfasts.

From the top of the bus.
Peeking ‘backstage’ at the Kunstgewerbemuseum

New National Gallery

You can see the Reichstag from the end of the train platform at Friedrichstrasse.

What to do when you have a few hours to spare at Schoenefeld airport? A drink and a pretzel ;)
Hopefully I will be back in Berlin in the summer. Such a great place.

A jumble of the rest that I liked :)
The pizza like thing is flammkuchen which is quite like a very very thin pizza. In the background of that photo is the other great thing to have in Berlin – Berliner Wiesse mit rot which is a wheat beer with a shot of raspberry syrup. Delicious!
The cake is in KaDeWe. We have a tradition that we like to go up to the resturant and try out a piece of their cake.
Goodbye Berlin!

Almost the end of my Berlin posts. This is the Charlottenburg Palace. It is free to enter the grounds and it was nice to see the different people using the space – children playing, people quietly reading books. The sun was coming in and out from behind the clouds and a boy was sailing his yellow boat on the lake.

We visited the Soviet War Memorial in Treptower park in the East of Berlin. The huge scale of it is so enormous, quite remarkable. Recently it was restored and is absolutely pristine. It was very peaceful on the day that we were there which is fitting as it is the final resting place for many thousands. There was a little old lady there laying flowers with her family.

We had dinner with my family on a boat that is moored on the Havel River at the edge of the forest. It was lovely to look out as the sun set over the water and the hearty German food was pretty great too. I had Matjes Filets which is a herring dish. After dinner we went for a walk by the edge of the river as it was getting dark. So quiet and peaceful.
