Yes Copenhagen! At the end of last week we went away for a few days. Maybe as this follows so close on Berlin it seems like all I do around here is go on holiday? (I wish.) We had a couple of holiday days to spare and as we had never been there we decided to visit this part of the world. I am aware that quite a few people from Copenhagen visit this site so I hope I can do the city justice :) We stayed here in Wakeup Copenhagen, I see that their prices go up and down depending on the time of year but we were fortunate that it was super cheap. It was nicely designed, especially for a budget place, and we even had a great view of the river. The location was right around the corner from the station and Tivoli. The breakfast cost extra and was only cereal and bread so we only tried it one day and saved our pennies for…

Brunch! I had no idea Danish brunches were so good. Such a genius idea to have a big plate of all sorts of things. We were finding Copenhagen very expensive especially for eating and drinking, I don’t know if it is expensive for the Danish people too or if it is just the exchange rate? But these brunches were reasonable, delicious, and were filling enough to last the whole day. By-the-by I have never seen so many sushi restaurants (even in Japan).

We came across many great shops filled with tempting handmade and vintage things. I visited Brinja‘s shop on Saturday but I had misjudged the opening times so unfortunately we were just able to look in the window. Next time. I don’t know if this is so or if it was me picking up on it more than it was but I thought there were a lot more people wearing the clothes I like to wear, sort of my general clothing wish list, so black things, oversized scarf, long hair, khaki coat. I kind of felt we were fitting in.

Exciting architecture. These bold new buildings right next to old ones.

We walked everywhere until we thought our legs might fly off. We went around and around, looking at everything. It seemed like so many people spoke such beautiful English, I have never been to a non-English speaking place where it seemed so apparent. Also we noticed how people who weren’t native English speakers were speaking English to each other. Is it if you have a friend over from Germany or Finland your common language is English so you speak that? I thought that very impressive.

This lady is looking at me :)

Hot dog, very delicious crunchy onions.

We had a walk around Christiania. This picture was taken just outside.

Nyhavn was busy. How nice to have so many waterways.

Look at this pair studying the map. You have to take a portrait when you come across one of these mirrors right? Something is going on with the back of my hair. We were going to the Jewish Museum. There is a bit of the Black Diamond in the background, another very impressive building.

Pastry. Excellent! Nothing like the ones you get here, so much better.

Tivoli. We really loved Tivoli. We went there at 8pm on Friday night after it was dark and it seemed so magical with the twinkly lights. We bought a wristband that gave us unlimited access to the rides so we went over and over on the rollercoasters which were our favourite. There was someone called Michael Falch playing on the big stage, we hadn’t heard of him before but he seemed mega popular with many people watching him and singing along. What was nice too was that unlike you often get here the rides didn’t have tacky thundering music, and we didn’t have to queue for anything for more than a minute or two.

Angry crab on the townhall.

On the last day we went to the David Lynch exhibition that opened that day and also visited the Glyptoteket which was free entry on Sundays.
The end.
Well not quite the end. I have one more post of when we went to Malmö and also I took some Lomo in Tivoli so I will see how they came out :)
