We walked from Brighton Beach to Coney Island on an amazingly bleak and dark looking day. It was like being a couple of decades away from Manhattan rather than 45 minutes away on the F train. It was a nice break from the crowdedness of the city and such an unusual place.

Ha this was such a fun thing to go to – we had no idea what was going on most of the time :) We had wanted to see something at MSG and the people in the queue and in the box office seemed to think that the ice hockey would be really fun to see. They were not wrong, it was really entertaining and crazy loud with music and loads of snacks and drinks available (I had a frozen margarita). What really surprised me was that there seemed to be hardly any security visibly there, and that there wasn't any need for it either! If that had been a high profile 'soccer' game in Britain there would have had to have been hundreds of police. The Rangers won.

We visited International territory. The building surprised me in how retro 1940s-50s it still was inside, I guess they are spending their money on more important things than re-doing the linoleum and bakelite! The place had that thrill feeling of being somewhere that history still is being made versus what a lot of tourist sites have of being somewhere that once held historical events long ago.

Totally worth it I thought. We had been warned about the queues so went quite early one sunny morning.
