Tom’s Restaurant

Seinfelddiner

Do you recognise this? The Seinfeld Diner!!! We are such tourists ;) As big Seinfeld fans we HAD to check this out. It is up at the very top of the Upper West Side near Columbia University. Simon got the Lumberjack Breakfast with coffee and I had a Swiss Omelette with an iced coffee. It was a pretty decent diner too that seemed to have plenty of locals and not just tourists like us, nice on a Sunday morning. Oh yes this is also "Tom's Diner" from the Suzanne Vega song, how cool is that!

The New York Public Library

This was a must see for me as it is in so many movies (I'm thinking Breakfast at Tiffanys and more recently the SATC wedding). The building is fabulous and best of all it is free to enter. It's right by Bryant Park (a nice place to sit) and the Kinokuniya Japanese bookstore, a bookstore that is not only fabulous in the range of Japanese books but also has a toilet and Japanese cafe – what more can a tourist ask for? The library doesn't open until 11am so plenty of time to have breakfast first.

This place also felt kind of homey to me, I think partly because it reminds me of Oxford, and of being a little kid running about places like this. I like that wood polish smell :)
