Paris: Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame

Saintechapelle

Sainte Chapelle. Isn't that window amazing. The museums are free on the first Sunday of the month and so was this.

I loved Notre Dame. I think it was my favourite site that we visited. I would really like to go back there again.

Paris: Père Lachaise

Wilde

Perelachaise

We followed the good tip to go to Gambetta Metro station and then walk back through the cemetery to the other side where then you have a choice of Père Lachaise Metro station or Philippe Auguste Metro (and a bathroom by the main gate). I am so glad I printed a map before going too! We were there just before the sun set and it was very atmospheric. I am glad we got out before dark though! :)

Walking up to the Louvre from Place de la Concorde. It is so nice to have all the wide open spaces, lots of squares and parks, and places to sit and chat.

Paris: some eating

Brasserie

Amilieshop

Bakery

Lechinon

I loved the breakfasts, buying a croissant from the bakery on the way to see the sights. We tried different places each day. So good! The baguettes were so much more delicious too. I did find it a bit of an issue to find dishes without meat. So much ham or steak in everything. But the salads were tasty and so was the vegetarian version of the Croque Monsieur. With so much delicious chocolate and desserts who needs real food? ;) I should think the great thing about being there for longer would be to be able to try more different things. I had a Pistachio Macaron which was incredible but now I am wondering what the other flavours would be like…

We came across the shop in the second picture as we were walking back to our hotel one night. I didn't realise until we got close enough to read the newspaper cuttings in the window that this shop was in Amelie. I can see why, it is very cute. I wrote a dissertation on Jean-Pierre Jeunet's use of colour for my degree but since then I haven't watched any of his films. You know when you kind of get overexposed to something because you have had to study it so hard? However now I really want to watch Amelie again :)
