We left the car in a garage for the few days we were in San Francisco, we spent the days walking in different areas. We met up with a friend of mine I’d known in Oxford and met his lovely wife (who works at Instructables!), they took us bar hopping around North Beach after a great meal in an Italian restaurant. We really liked all the areas we went to, perhaps the Mission area was our favourite with lots of nice little shops, cafes to stop for a drink, thrift stores where we bought books, and plenty of record shops for Simon. We of course visited Chinatown and did touristy stuff like going to see the ladies making fortune cookies. We ate a couple of times in Japantown which had lots of places to eat and cheap fun shops like Daiso and Ichiban Kan where everything is $1.50. We rode on a bus to Haight and Ashbury (lots of characters on that bus!). Walking up and down those hills is pretty brutal, perhaps especially for us coming from such a flat city, San Franciscans must have legs of iron :)
