We took a short detour in from the coast to take a look at Solvang. It’s a town in wine country founded in 1911 by some Danes and now offers ‘a taste of Denmark’. We were curious to see what this would mean having been in Copenhagen not too long ago. It’s quite an eye popping place! We had dinner at Hitching Post II which is the restaurant in the film Sideways and it was really great, packed with local families and couples, the food was good as was the wine from their vineyard. The big tourist thing of Solvang seems to be eating Danish Pastries, we didn’t get a chance to try one as we were either saving up our appetite for dinner or full of pancake from a Paula’s Pancake House breakfast. It was really interesting to see such a touristic place, in that respect it reminded me of some of our Cotswold towns ;)
I took these pictures on a walk in the evening when it seemed that all the other tourists had gone home or were at wine tasting sessions.
